Dr. Madhuri Majumdar is an exponent of Kuchipudi Dance. She had undergone her training in Kuchipudi under the auspicious guidance of Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, the doyen of Kuchipudi Dance at Kuchipudi Art Academy, Chennai. She had done B.A & M.A. in Kuchipudi from Rabindra Bharati University and achieved First class First. She received Ph.D degree from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata where she is presently holding the post of Assistant Professor.
She is training young dancers for more than thirty years and is the founder director of ‘Kuchipudi Kalamadhuri’, Kolkata - the academy which imparts training in Kuchipudi. She has choreographed several dance items including Khamas tillana, Saraswati Vandana, Shiva stotram Ganesh Stuti, Durgati Pariharini etc. Her main contribution in Kuchipudi repertoire is to introduce the eminent Maithili kavi kokil Vidyapati’s “Bhabasammelana Padas”, and she is one of the exponents in this genre to introduce the bard, Vidyapati in Kuchipudi art form.
She was the recipient of Junior Fellowship from the Dept. of Culture, Govt. of India (2000). She is an empanelled established category artiste for the ICCR, EZCC and A-grade artiste for Doordarshan. She has received Brijal Binyani Foundation Scholarship (1990) and India Culture Trust Scholarship (1989).
She has authored a book on history of Kuchipudi dance titled ‘Kuchipudi Nritya Katha’ and has published several articles in various periodicals.
